A Police Federation member has secured a significant settlement after suffering serious injuries in a police dog training exercise.
The officer was badly injured when they were bitten by a police dog during training. The injury had a lasting impact on both their health and policing career, with medical evidence later suggesting they were unlikely to return to frontline duties.
The claim was challenged throughout much of the legal process, with liability initially denied. However, with support from the Police Federation and specialist solicitors, the officer continued to pursue the case.
After years of detailed legal work, including expert medical evidence and court proceedings, full liability was eventually accepted. The case later concluded with a substantial compensation settlement that recognised the serious and long-term effects of the injury.
The successful outcome provides financial security for the officer and reflects the importance of ensuring members have access to expert legal support when injuries affect their lives and careers.
Acting National Secretary Mel Warnes said: "This case shows why Federation support matters. Our member faced a life-changing injury and a long legal process, but they never had to face it alone.
“We're here to support members when things don't go to plan, helping them access expert advice, legal representation and practical support when they need it most. We're pleased that this officer has now received the outcome they deserve and can focus on the future."
