As part of our response to the Employment Tribunal recommendations, the Federation is making a number of changes to strengthen transparency, equality and accountability across the organisation.
These are outlined below:
Decision Recording Policy
This policy ensures that decisions made by the National Board and National Council are recorded and shared with members wherever possible, reflecting our commitment to openness. It also embeds Equality Impact Assessments in decision-making, supporting our ongoing focus on fairness and inclusivity for all members.
What is the Decision Recording Policy?
This new policy ensures that decisions made by our National Board and National Council are clearly recorded and, where appropriate, shared with our members. It is designed to strengthen transparency and help everyone stay informed about the direction and priorities of the organisation.
How are decisions assessed?
Every significant National Board and National Council decision affecting all our members now includes an Equality Impact Assessment. This means we look closely at how decisions might affect different groups, ensuring fairness, inclusion, and equality are at the heart of everything we do.
Why is this policy important?
We believe that an open organisation is a stronger organisation. By sharing decisions and being clear about how they are made, we empower our members and create a culture of trust and accountability.
Diversity Training
To support the National Board, National Council and the senior executive team in their decision making and conducting impact assessments, Inclusive Employers (inclusiveemployers.com) have been engaged to provide formal training on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The National Board and members of leadership have already undertaken this training, which now forms part of the Federation's annual programme of EDI training being rolled out in the organisation over the coming months. As part of that the Federation commits that the senior executive team will participate in formal diversity training on an annual basis.
Diversity Data Collection from Police Federation Representatives
The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) is committed to increasing transparency and understanding of diversity within its representative structure. From 9 October 2025, PFEW will begin collecting anonymised data on the protected characteristics of its representatives. The data will be published annually on this website in summary form, helping to monitor representation and support greater inclusivity across the organisation.
