Response:

Responded: 13 January 2021

The Police Federation of England and Wales are exempting this response under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Part 1, Section 12: cost of compliance exceeds appropriate limit.

We are not obliged to comply with a request if it is estimated that the cost of locating, retrieving and, where necessary, extracting the information from a database or document would exceed the appropriate limit. The appropriate limit is deemed to be based on a rate of £25 per hour, regardless of the rate of pay of any individual involved in the retrieval of requested information and equates to 18 hours work.

The number of claims for the period 2019-2020 alone total 388.  Injury Awards are not categorised by race or racism and therefore in order to obtain the data requested we would need to read every single file independently.

We estimate it would be likely to take in excess of 190 hours to examine each case and provide the data with redactions.
