PFEW has a responsibility to review subscription rates regularly to ensure a balance between affordability for our membership and ensuring the organisation can continue to provide the best representation for members.

Only one increase to subscriptions has been made over the last decade. At Annual Conference 2022, the following motion was put forward: “This Conference supports increasing the rate of all types of PFEW subscriptions effective from 1 September 2022, in line with the percentage uplift to Police pay for 2022-23”. The motion was carried by local and regional delegates 221 votes to 170 following a robust debate.

In July 2022, Police Remuneration Review Body (PRRB) published its recommended award for police pay that the Government accepted in full. The pay award for Federation members sits between 3.1 per cent and 8.8 per cent depending on rank. As such, the options presented to increase subscriptions ranged from 3.1 per cent to 8.8 per cent.

Today [18 August] following a detailed discussion, the National Board agreed to the lowest average increase of 3.1 per cent to the PFEW membership subscription rate, this works out at 58 pence per month net for basic rate taxpayers.

The increase to the PFEW membership subscription rate will take effect from 1 October 2022.

PFEW is cognisant of the increased costs that will be associated to the rise of inflation and will continue to work with our suppliers and stakeholders to ensure value for money.
