Praise for frontline officers during Response Policing Week

30 June 2023

Nottinghamshire Police Force has been shining a light on the invaluable work of frontline officers as part of Response Policing Week.

As part of the focus, the Force highlighted PC Maddy Flint-Foster who covers Meadows and Clifton and is usually one of the first on the scene of a crime in progress.

Her best achievements are putting those responsible for domestic violence and sexual assault behind bars and giving victims the confidence to speak out.

PC Flint-Foster said: “I feel like we can make a massive impact. I remember attending a high-risk domestic, with a very violent man, and I spent hours with the victim that night who was understandably in a lot of pain and distress.

“She told me at court that she now wants to work for the police because of the service we delivered that night. It’s these little acts that make the biggest difference and make you realise the work you are doing is having an impact on the public.”

PC Flint-Foster has been spat at, threatened, and attacked in the course of her duties, but is proud to have the support and back-up from colleagues. She was nominated for Nottinghamshire Police’s Response Officer of the Year, reaching the final three.

Simon Riley, chair of Nottinghamshire Police Federation, said: “Quite simply, we could not do what we do as a service without the courage and dedication of our frontline officers, which is why I say that like Maddy are her colleagues are the lifeblood and backbone of policing.

“It’s not just about bringing criminals to justice, it’s also about empathy and listening and our officers keeping a cool head and using their skills to defuse difficult situations. They are modern day heroes and heroines and, as a federation, we are proud to represent our response officers and celebrate them this week.”

To mark the week the College of Policing, working with Oskar Kilo, is running a series of webinars to help officers brush up their skills and training. They are also sharing resources on social media using the hashtag #ResponsePoliceWeek.
