Nottinghamshire Police Federation

Fed chair urges members to fill out new pay and morale survey

6 November 2023

Nottinghamshire Police Federation chair Simon Riley says the annual pay and morale survey is vital to support its work on behalf of members.

Simon is encouraging as many members as possible to complete this year’s survey, which has been launched today.

He said: “The survey gives us a comprehensive insight into the realities of frontline policing.

“The findings provide us with vital evidence that supports our campaigns for better pay and a fairer funding mechanism.

“We’ll share them with our chief officers and ministers so they have a picture of the issues our members are facing at a time when the cost of living crisis is continuing to bite.

“The more members who complete the survey the clearer and more complete that picture will be.

“Your opinion matters so please make your voice heard.”

The survey is open until Monday 11 December.

Last year’s survey found that 77 per cent of respondents in Nottinghamshire Police were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with their pay, while 15 per cent reported never or almost never having enough money to cover all their essentials.

Some 44 per cent of respondents said their morale was low or very low, with 72 per cent saying that morale within the force was low or very low.

Almost one fifth (19 per cent) said they intended to resign from the service in the next two years, with morale, the impact of the job on their mental health and wellbeing, and the impact of their job  on family and personal life the main reasons.

Members will be sent details of how to take part in the survey.
