Statement from Chairman, Rich Cooke, following a recent blog, titled “It’s all about Performance, we could do better” by West Mids DCC, Louisa Rolfe:
“I have spoken with DCC Rolfe this morning and we had a frank conversation about the issues she raised in her blog. I am reassured by her responses that this was not intended as any criticism of rank & file officers, but as a challenge to leaders.
There are massive challenges we face as a Force, to try and provide the best service we possibly can to the public, against a background of diminishing resources, a violent crime epidemic, cuts to partner agencies & more complex crime than ever before.
Our officers are working extremely hard, with a lot less support. They are under tremendous stress; a pertinent factor on World Mental Health day! They feel exposed, and vulnerable at times.
There is not, and cannot be any doubt about our officer’s commitment to get the job done & that in most cases that job remains a good one.
There will always be ways we can do things better, and our officers have embraced change, new technology, and made the best of it over and over again, despite the personal upheaval. They consistently put the public first & run towards danger.
The DCC is happy to meet with me & any of our officers who have issues they want to raise & ideas to help take us forward.”
