Keep up-to-date with all of the news and views from West Midlands Police Federation in the bumper 36-page edition of Federation, the branch’s online magazine.

Meet the life-saving cop who has won a prestigious bravery award after rescuing two elderly women from under an unstable car.

Glenn Brabham was the overall winner at the inaugural West Midlands Police Bravery Awards, and will represent the Force at this year’s National Police Bravery Awards.

We also hear from all the other winners on the night from across the Force area, while branch chair Rich Cooke and Jamie McDonnell, of headline sponsor Slater and Gordon, reflect on a hugely successful awards night.

Rich also voices his concerns about the way the Criminal Justice System deals with people with mental health issues who commit crimes, and he discusses the effectiveness of community policing.

Branch secretary Tim Rogers, who is also the pursuits and driver training lead for the National Federation, discusses the effectiveness of new legislation which aims to give police drivers better protection in law.

Dave Hadley, the branch’s conduct lead, calls for change to the conduct process, which he says ‘breaks good people’.

Detective Sergeant John Price talks about his surprise at being recognised with the King’s Police Medal in the New Year’s Honours.

There’s praise for the officers who tackled the violence at the FA Cup derby game between West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Find out about the walking group set up by PC Dan Philips to support men’s mental health and as a tribute to his friend and colleague PC Marc Forth.

And we meet PC Greg Ward, who has thanked the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals after it paid for an operation for his retired police dog Nugget.

These articles and more are all featured in the latest edition of Federation, which is available to download now.
