The 36-page bumper Christmas edition of the West Midlands Police Federation magazine is available now.

It’s full of news and views from the branch, including a message for members from chair Rich Cooke as he reflects on 2023 and looks ahead to next year.

Rich expresses his shock at the Force being placed in special measures and urges new Home Secretary James Cleverly to listen and work with the Federation.

He also urges the Government to save the Force’s iconic police stations after it was announced at least 30 are to be closed.

Rich renews his calls for every officer to have Taser after a knife attack on a student officer, while branch deputy chair Jase Dooley called for offenders found guilty of assaulting officers to face the strongest possible sentences.

Rich and Jase pay tribute to ‘one of a kind’ Sergeant Ade Naik after representing the Federation at his funeral.

We hear from some of the winners at the annual West Midlands Police Awards, and from two of the Force’s Specials who were recognised at the Lords Ferrers Awards.

There’s praise for Federation member PC Stuart Ward from Rio Ferdinand after an offender was jailed for racially abusing the former Manchester United and England footballer.

Jase discusses the ‘unprecedented violence’ members faced when policing Aston Villa’s Europa Conference League game with Legia Warsaw at Villa Park.

There’s an update on the branch’s successful ‘court hearings’ campaign and we meet Inspector Colin Baker who has completed two marathons and a half marathon to raise money for the Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.

We round up all the news and talking points from this year’s Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) annual conference.

And as we come to the end of 2023, there’s a look back at another busy year for West Midlands Police Federation.

It’s all in Federation, which is available to read online now.
