Factsheets put focus on health and wellbeing

13 June 2023

West Midlands Police Federation deputy chair Jase Dooley is encouraging members to use the start of a series of awareness campaigns to focus on their health and wellbeing.

Men’s Health Week, Healthy Eating Week and Loneliness Awareness Week all started on Monday (12 June) with Jase saying they provide a chance for members to make changes to improve their overall wellbeing.

Jase said: “Awareness campaigns such as these are an opportunity for us to focus on ourselves and our own health and mental wellbeing.

“There are steps we can all take to improve our health, such as eating well, exercising and staying connected with people.

“We’re all so busy that we often overlook ourselves, so I’d encourage members to use this week as a bit a reset to focus on changes we can make to improve our health and wellbeing.”

Healthy eating forms part of the awareness campaigns

To support members Police Mutual, which offers financial services for serving or retired police officers, staff and their families, has produced a series of free online guides to coincide with the awareness weeks.

A factsheet for Men’s Health Week includes advice on the physical and mental health issues that men face as well as tips for staying healthy.

Police Mutual has also produced a free factsheet for Healthy Eating Week to help members think about improving their diet.

The guide includes advice on eating and drinking healthily, tips on losing weight and reducing hunger cravings and a focus on physical and psychological relationships with food.

The third and final online guide focuses on Loneliness Awareness Week (12–18 June), which aims to reduce the stigma of loneliness.

The factsheet aims to demystify loneliness and offers tips on what you can do if you feel lonely, as well as signposting to further support.
