Matt Ratana 10k event returns for 2021

19 April 2021

In September 2020 Sergeant Matt Ratana was killed in the line of duty at Croydon custody suite. In the weeks that followed, his good friend and colleague Paul Hollis quickly established a memorial event in his honour, The Ratana 10k.

The first event was a huge success with over 2,500 people taking part from home and raising over £40,000.

This year’s event will take place throughout the month of April and as it is entirely virtual, it can be completed wherever and whenever you like.

West Midlands Police Federation secretary Steve Grange has welcomed the return of the event and is encouraging officers to take part.

“It is fantastic to see the return of The Ratana 10k, a special event in honour of a lost colleague. Paul has done a wonderful job in bringing people together to raise money and remember Matt,” Steve said.

All proceeds from this year’s event will be split between Matt’s partner, Su, and the Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation established by his former friends and colleagues at East Grinstead Rugby Club.

Rugby was a huge passion for Matt and Paul is hoping to engage more of the rugby community in this year’s event as well as every police force in the country.
