Forces unite to remember fallen officers

Police forces in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will join together to remember fallen colleagues later this month.
The unified act of remembrance will take place at 11am on Monday 27 September, the day after a service marking National Police Memorial Day (NPMD) takes place at Lincoln Cathedral. The Force will be taking part in the event.
Footage from the NPMD service, which will have restricted numbers due to Covid-19, will be made available to all police forces for use in the remembrance event.
The act of remembrance will be the culmination of a planned weekend of events marking NPMD, beginning with the lighting up of several landmark buildings in blue on Saturday 25 September. This will include Lincoln Cathedral.
The Sunday memorial service from the cathedral is invitation-only, but the event will be recorded and streamed on the NPMD website from 4pm that day.
A virtual tribute wall is also now open on the website, allowing friends and family to leave messages commemorating those they have lost.
West Midlands Police Federation chair Jon Nott says: “National Police Memorial Day allows a much-needed moment to pause and remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty.
“Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved in NPMD, we have a number of ways to commemorate our fallen colleagues and pay tribute to their memory.
“I would encourage everyone who can to take time over the weekend, whether on the tribute wall or as part of the services on Sunday or Monday, to reflect on those we have lost.”
