Get Active for Police Care UK

9 September 2020

West Midlands Police Federation chair Jon Nott has encouraged members to take part in the Get Active Challenge and support the work of Police Care UK.

Officers and staff, their family and friends, as well as supporters of the police, are being asked to get moving as part of a friendly six-week inter-force competition.

The challenge aims to help officers and staff stay healthy and look after their wellbeing, while supporting Police Care UK, the charity for police officers and staff, volunteers, and their families who have suffered harm as a result of policing, and creating good-natured rivalry.

People taking part in the challenge register and log their activities online. Running, cycling and swimming, exercise classes, weights and even the dog walk count towards your total.

Your exercise is tracked on national leader boards with individual and collective mileage, and fund-raising targets.

Jon said: “The Get Active Challenge is a great way for us to look after ourselves and to raise money for Police Care UK. It’s a fantastic charity that does so much to support the policing family, so it’s great that we can get involved in this challenge and support them.

“You never know when you might call on them for help. It’s more important than ever as we live through the pandemic to look after our physical and mental health. The challenge is a really good way to get fitter, move more and have some inter-force rivalry as well.”

The Get Active Challenge runs from next Monday (14 September) to 31 October. Registration is now open via the Get Active Challenge website and every participant receives a medal.

The entry fee is £15. Police Care UK receives 50 per cent of the sign-up fee and any additional fund-raising participants wish to do via Just Giving.
