Approaching retirement? Sign up for free seminars

8 February 2023

Specialist advisers from financial experts Metfriendly are holding a series of free online seminars for Hertfordshire Police Federation members who are approaching retirement.

Seminars on 23 February and 7 March will provide important information for officers who are five years or less from retirement and have big financial decisions coming up.

These events begin at 10am and last for around four hours with a half-hour break.

Metfriendly is also holding pension “Myth-busting” webinars on 21 February and 29 March which run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

These sessions are designed for those who want help in untangling the tricky questions around the police pension.

Metfriendly has experienced advisers who know the ins and outs of the different police pension schemes and will cover the following topics:

  • Questions and myths around the police pension using real-life case studies
  • Pension reform (McCloud remedy ) and all updates
  • Weighted accrual and immediate detriment – what they mean and how they work
  • Underpin calculations – what they are and how they affect you
  • October 2023 – the relevance of this date and how it affects you
  • Understanding your pension statement
  • Scheme overview (all three schemes) and how they work together
  • Understanding when you can retire and what to expect (lump sum options).

Members can register for any of the seminars via the Metfriendly website.

Hertfordshire Police Federation secretary Al Wollaston said: “The police pension schemes are notoriously complicated and we don’t want our members making badly informed decisions which could prove costly when they retire.

“There are a lot of myths flying around and it is important to know the facts so I would encourage any colleagues approaching retirement to consider signing up for these seminars.”
