Men's health webinar: members encouraged to register for online event

8 November 2023

Registration is now open for the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) inaugural men’s health webinar.

The theme is addiction and its impact on physical and mental health.

Members will be able to hear from a range of speakers and will be able to ask questions during each session.

It takes place virtually, via Teams on 16 November between 10am and 12.30pm.

Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton said: “The webinar is a chance for us to focus on men’s health and how to make it easier for men to open up about the issues that are affecting them.

“One of the aims of the seminar is to change attitudes and there’ll be discussions about how we all have a part to play in that, so I’d encourage as many members as possible to attend.

“The seminar is not just for men, everyone is welcome.”

The webinar will be opened by the PFEW’s Welsh co-lead Zac Mader and speakers will include the police service’s chief medical officer John Harrison, who will talk about how he can influence attitudes towards men’s health.

Chief Inspector Stewart Codling, of Thames Valley Police, will focus on mental health and promoting a safe space where men can open up.

Nick Conn, chief executive of Help4Addiction, will talk about his experience of being a serving police officer with an addiction and his journey.

PFEW national board member Belinda Goodwin will talk about changing attitudes and how it’s important to understand that language and behaviour have a massive part to play in that - and also the important role our female colleagues have in men feeling empowered to open up.
