It is with great sadness that we announce that PC 2421 Darren Martin passed away on 5 August 2015.

Tributes

I didn't know Darren really well, only met him when I was on duty as a SC some years ago he was always a gentleman with a polite & friendly manner. My condolences to his family, friends & colleagues. I have read the tributes & this adds to my felling that this is a such a sad loss to so many people who were fortunate to know Darren more than I did. RIP Darren.

- Steve Gosling ex SC6699
All the best to his family and friends. RIP mate.
- Chloe
Really sorry for such a tragic loss, I grew up with Darren in and around East Stockwith, he was a lovely, cheerful, kind lad, thoughts and love to his family. His send off today was a fitting tribute, you did him proud xxx
- Melany Leek
Darren was my wife's sister's son, we knew him well, a fine human being we shall miss him we hope he goes to a happier place.
- Derek & Brenda Sutton
It was with great sadness and a heavy heart I learnt of the passing of Daz Martin . I worked with Daz for a long time on his shift as his dog man and saw first-hand his enthusiasm and hunger for fighting crime. I echo the comments below and would describe him as a thorn in the side of the criminals . We stood shoulder to shoulder in many a fight and became friends as well as colleagues. My heartfelt condolences go to both the family and friends of this young warrior. Daz, I have sent my best police dog up before you, find him and he will keep you safe. See you again my friend. Chris the Dog Man and his boys, Jet and Phantom xx
- Chris Grady
What I am feeling right now is so hard to put into words. My condolences to Kirsty, Adam and your Mum and Dad, my thoughts and love to you all. I am so grateful to have known you and will think about you everyday. You are a great mate and a superb cop. I miss your banter, your practical jokes and even the ones that annoyed me because every time you'd be looking at me with amusement with that cheeky grin and I had to forgive you. What I would give for one more annoying practical joke! You were such a gifted people person that everyone from any background loved you. I know how much you meant to everyone and what a gap you have left. It's a pleasure to have known you and it's a pleasure to have shared so much with you (even a hot tub!). I get a feeling that you might be getting up to some more mischief and it won't be the same with Darren Martin up there. YNWA Grez.
- Graham McInnis
We have held off writing any message having wanted time to compose and come to terms with such a devastating loss. Still as shocked and stunned today as the day we heard the news. Daz, you always had a smile and it was a pleasure working with you. We have never met anyone so dedicated to his job. Always going above and beyond. We will always remember you. You are missed so much. Our thought are with Kirsty and your family xx

I would just like to pass on my heart felt sadness at Daz's passing. I'm shocked that someone I played football with from the age of eight all the way through school and into men's football has passed away. A lovely lad and someone who always said hello. Even though i wouldn't say we were great mates, I would say I was proud to have known him and my heart goes out to his family and close friends. so sad, sleep tight Daz.
- Kev
This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to write! I spent the first six years of my policing career on shift with you and we became very good friends. Whenever we were paired up which was most of the time we had a great time and it soon became a standing joke with the custody staff that if we were together they were in for a busy shift!! We were the dream team. When we went out a few months ago I told everyone after one or two drinks that if I had to choose one officer to work with it would be you and I am so pleased I told you that because it was 100 per cent true!!! I admired your enthusiasm and your commitment you always had a cheeky smile and a positive attitude. Since leaving shift we have still spoken most days and I always knew I could call you up and you would be there to help me out!! I can't tell you how much I will miss you and how devastated I am!! Lots of love to Kirsty, Adam and your Mum and Dad, RIP Darren, all my love Pony xxx
- Leanne Love
Rest in Peace. I pray that your family and friends find strength.
- Balram Singh
RIP mate YNWA x

- Michelle Evison
Such a shock. Rest in peace, Daz. Thoughts are with your family and friends.
- Sue Cracknell ex PC1280
Dazzler! I am so, so sad to hear this tragic news, I really enjoyed those 15 months or so working with you on Scunthorpe Proactive Team. Always first out of the office, relentless in the pursuit of those who brought misery to the streets - a top 'thief taker' and a good friend. Dazzler you were a real credit to the cops and a real pleasure to work with. RIP mate.
- Spenno
Such sad sad news, condolences to all the family and friends, a absolute great guy, get strength and comfort from all these wonderful tributes - be proud.
- Nige Willerton
Gutted to hear the news this morning. Top bloke and a great sense of humour. Use to enjoy you popping into the office every now and then for a chin wag about the mighty reds. Rest in Peace mate.
- Alan Curtis
Daza, words fail me. It's been a genuine privilege getting to know you and an honour serving on the same shift with you for the past four months. A great Bobby and a great man. RIP mate.
- Jonny Griffiths
The world seems very unfair today and makes no sense at all. The strong, fit and fair should thrive and prosper. I can only think that God needed someone to keep things right up there and called on you. You will be missed as an officer and a friend but mostly as someone who cared and worked so hard to help keep things right. Take care up there mate.
- Dave Butt
Have known Darren since he was a little boy playing with our son Terry. So sad to hear this news and our hearts go out to his Mum, Dad and fiancee and other members of his family.
- Ann & Terry Baxter
Stand down officer, your duty is done. RIP police family. Sad loss.
- Ian Spain
Darren, I had the pleasure of having worked with you and you impressed me so much with your enthusiasm and eagerness to get stuck in. Scunthorpe has lost one of its best. The fact that you spent most of the down periods of the shift talking about your family showed that they were the most important thing in your life. You will be sorely missed by many people and my thoughts are now with those that were closest to you.
- Bryan Moore
It was a pleasure working with Daz, shifts were always eventful, he was like a dog with a bone. I have great memories of working with him on IRT2, my heart goes out to his family. RIP Daz.

- Phil Davies
Didn't know Darren very well but, he always had a smile on his face. Clearly loved his job. Condolences to his family and friends.
- Nicola Graham
I grew up with Daz in East Stockwith too. I remember him at six-years-old coming to play with my younger brother, cheeky chappy who was obsessed with football. He has always been a gentleman, still stopping to chat whenever he saw me even though I was just his mate's older sister. He was particularly kind when my husband died eight years ago and I am so shocked to hear this news today. Sending love and prayers to his fiancee and his Mum and Dad. I will always remember this lovely guy.
- Hayley Baxter
What a great bloke. What a superb police officer. What a cruel and sad loss of a truly decent, honest and hardworking lad. Daz was so well liked, thought of and respected. A quality person and a great professional. It was a pleasure to work with him in Scunthorpe PAT. Daz ripped up trees and put a shift in every time he was on duty. Daz, while individually talented and driven, would walk in to any team. I hope his family can take some strength in seeing how much Daz meant to so many people. I know how much being a police officer meant to Daz. The public have lost a great and dedicated servant.
- Graham Nicholson
Gone too soon at such a young age. Always heard and saw you when I was on shift change over but never got to partner with you. Laughter was always there with you, you taking Micky outta someone. You'l be sadly missed by all and the Force.
- Jan Simm
RIP and my condolences to your family.
- Nathan PG

- Ian Hayes
It was a privilege to have tutored you and be alongside you for your first arrest and watch you flourish in to the truly dedicated officer you became. It was also an honour to have been double crewed with you on what was to be your final two shifts, if only we had known. My thoughts are with your family and Kirsty. Rest in peace, Daz, you will never be forgotten.
- Sarah Kelleher-Young

Gonna miss the jokes about fake tan and your awesome impressions of a select few! The crims can rest easy in their dens for a while as one of the best, most proactive coppers has gone. I'm pleased to say I knew you and I'm going to have a good drink tonight in your honour. When you didn't make me smile you made me grimace with your infamous trademark and even then we'd all be laughing Daz. Take it steady up there xx

I met this amazing funny guy at the Canary Island a few years ago. At that time I wanted to join the police in the Netherlands. I had a chat about being a police officer with this amazing guy. He helped making my decision and I'm thankful for that. Reading this news breaks my heart. The water and distance between our countries don't mean anything. We are colleagues, we are brothers in blue. We have the same standards and values and because of that. I feel like a lost a brother. My thoughts are with his family at home and at his family at the police department. The police officer who puts their life on the line with no superpowers, no X-Ray vision, no super-strength, no ability to fly, and above all no invulnerability to bullets, reveals far greater virtue than Superman who is only a mere superhero. Eliezer Yudkowsky I salute you.
- Jaap Molenaar
