PFEW Issues Apology Over Pension Ruling

19 July 2023

The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) has announced that it will not be pursuing an appeal against the judgment issued by the Employment Tribunal on 6 June 2023.

PFEW issued a statement saying: “PFEW’s National Board and National Council, which is made up of representatives of rank-and-file officers across the eight regions of England and Wales, have made the decision not to appeal the judgment.

“PFEW is unreservedly sorry and would like to offer an unconditional apology for the distress caused.

“The claimants’ remedy will now be determined at a separate hearing, and in the weeks and months ahead, we will be taking a proactive approach to engage, rebuild bridges, learn lessons, and implement change.”

And Darren Pemble, Chair of Surrey Police Federation, added: “Surrey Branch board will continue to work with PFEW and unreservedly offer our apologies for any distress caused to our members.

“We will work with you to provide an effective voice and representation to all members.

“We hope that lessons can be learnt, and we can engage, build bridges and implement change as an organisation for you, our membership.”
