Surrey Federation Focus - Chair Mel Warnes outlines some of the areas your Staff Association is looking at
I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you what the Surrey Police Federation Focus for 2022 is.
Firstly, Time Limits on investigations. We know that investigations by PSD and the IOPC have an impact on officers, particularly when the investigations continue for a significant amount of time.
Under the 2020 Police Regulations PSD and the IOPC have a responsibility to tell the officer and the local policing authority (PCC) the reason for the delay - if there is one - and when the investigation is likely to be completed when the case has reached the 12 month mark.
I can assure you that your local Federation is pushing to ensure timeliness is improving in local investigations and we do not want them to be ongoing for longer than necessary. We appreciate that some cases are complex, but these are few and far between. It should not be the norm that cases are taking a considerable amount of time.
Secondly, Good news stories. Policing gets a hard time in the press most days. We know there is a lot of good work and good news stories that go un-noticed. I would like to highlight this good work, but I need your help. Any stories or investigations that can be reported on need to be fed into the Federation office so that we can promote them the best we can.
Lastly, Resourcing resilience. Surrey Police Federation are only too aware of the heavy demand on you all, across all areas of the business. We know demand is outstripping your ability to respond properly and as such this takes a huge toll on you, our members as expectations continue to grow. We see the increase of welfare concerns and sickness a worrying and unacceptable trend.
We want to engage with the Chief Officer Group to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Surrey Police. We want to make sure our members are cared for and rewarded for the work you do which is the best service you can provide to the people of Surrey.

We are your Federation and will continue to work hard to represent your interests.
