YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS

Members of the Police Federation can claim tax relief on their subscriptions via their tax code. This has the effect of reducing the true cost of membership for most officers by 20%.

From 1st January 2026, an officer checking their pay slip will see an apparent cost of £26.31 for that membership. However, thanks to an agreement brokered by the Federation with HMRC some time ago, the actual cost to the officer is just £21.04 per month.  Lincolnshire Payroll have confirmed that Police Federation subscriptions are not set up with payroll with tax relief so this means that you need to claim the tax yourself.

HOW CAN I DO THIS?

Please note you can backdate claims for up to four years & you can claim tax relief directly from HMRC in one of the following ways:

  • Via your online HMRC tax account, or
  • By completing a P87 form

Alternatively, you may wish to use Checkmytax.co.uk who can manage the process for you. If you contact them they will guide you through the next steps; they may require confirmation from us in Branch of your membership and we can provide this for you when you require it – we can provide:
