Academics to address Federation’s Welsh affairs group

14 November 2022

The Welsh criminal justice system and how it operates within devolved powers will be under discussion at the next meeting of the Police Federation’s Welsh affairs committee.

Academics Dr Rob Jones from Cardiff University and Dr Mike Harrison from Swansea University will be speaking at the Cardiff meeting.

Dr Jones has recently published a book which examines how the Welsh criminal justice system works within the English and Welsh system of which it is a part.

He is keen to forge stronger links with the Police Federation and wants to collaborate more closely on future work on criminal justice in Wales.

Dr Harrison, who would also like to create a closer working relationship with the Police Federation, has previously written about communications in public order situations and teaches on the policing education qualifications framework (PEQF) programme.

The meeting is being held on the Senedd estate and is being sponsored by Plaid Cymru Senedd Member Peredur Owen Griffiths.

Mr Griffiths will attend to give his party’s overview of the criminal justice system and its thoughts and policy ideas on devolution and policing.

South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Andy Valentine is also attending the meeting and will be speaking about collaboration between the four Welsh forces.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday (15 November).
