Federation supporting National Day of Reflection

23 March 2021

Humberside Police Federation will be joining organisations from across the country today to mark the National Day of Reflection.

The event comes a year to the date that the Prime Minister announced the first national lockdown and is a chance for the nation to remember the 126,000 people who have died over the past 12 months.

Led by the end of life care charity Marie Curie, today will include a national minute’s silence at midday. Communities are also being encouraged to take part in the ‘beacon of light’ at 8pm by standing on their doorsteps or at their windows while shining a light from a candle, torch or mobile phone.

Humberside Police Federation branch chair Pete Musgrave said: “We will be observing the minute’s silence at midday to remember all those who have tragically lost their lives in the last year but also to show our support to their families.

“I don’t think there is anyone who has not been touched in some way by the pandemic and therefore it is important for us all to come together for this Day of Reflection.”

The Federation is encouraging those who have dealt with bereavement, at work or on a personal level, to reach out for support if they need it. The branch officials or workplace representatives can help members access tailored support.
