Federation encourages officers to support The Ratana 10k 2021

16 April 2021

An event organised in memory of Sergeant Matt Ratana who was killed in the line of duty at Croydon custody suite in September 2020 has returned this month.

This is the second edition of the event, which was established last winter by Matt’s good friend and colleague, Paul Hollis.

The first event was a huge success with more than 2,500 people taking part from home and raising over £40,000.

Humberside Police Federation secretary Rob Grunner is encouraging officers and staff to get involved and do their bit to show continued support to Matt’s family and friends.

“Last year’s event, and its huge success, demonstrated support for the cause and also served as a tribute to Matt.  It is vital that his memory lives on and events like these are a brilliant way of commemorating him and the service he gave,” said Rob.

This year’s event will see all funds raised split between Matt’s partner, Su, and the Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation established by his former friends and colleagues at East Grinstead Rugby Club.

Rugby was a huge passion for Matt and Paul is hoping to engage more of the rugby community in this year’s event. He also wants officers from every force to get behind the event.
