PPE – share your views

A new study has been launched into the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the pandemic and Humberside Police Federation members are being urged to take part.

Federation branch chair Pete Musgrave wants members to add their voice to research which aims to build an understanding of the benefits of using PPE, potential barriers and why some personnel have not been using it as much lately as they did in the early stages of the pandemic.

The study is being conducted by Cardiff University and Operation Talla, the service’s response to Covid-19, and has the support of the National Police Chiefs’ Council.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on many areas of our lives,” Pete said. “And that includes the work of our members and the use of PPE to protect themselves, their loved ones and the public they serve.

“We’re continuing to live through unprecedented times but we must learn and lessons to ensure we continue to develop best practice.

“This survey is important in that regard and we would encourage our members to complete it to help build a broad picture about the use of PPE, their experiences and how we can do things better.”

The nationwide survey, which should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete, closes on Sunday (20 September). It’s anonymous and is designed for officers and staff who may have some need to use PPE in their current role.

Complete the survey.
