Memorial day on Sunday

24 September 2020

Members are being reminded the National Police Memorial Day service will be held online this year to ensure that fallen officers and their families can still be honoured and remembered.

The service will be held this Sunday (27 September) at 3pm.

The website streaming the service will also host a tribute wall where you can share your memories and photos or leave condolence messages.

Pete Musgrave, Humberside Police Federation chair, said: “A lot of work has gone into ensure that, while we can’t all be together at Lincoln Cathedral this Sunday, we can still come together to pay our respects.

“I hope as many people as possible will take the opportunity to watch the service online and remember those officers who paid the ultimate price while serving their communities.

“This virtual event is a chance for us to honour fallen officers and to show their families that their sacrifice has not been forgotten.

“The tribute wall also provides people with a way of remembering officers and paying their respects,” Pete added.

To access the service, you will be asked to provide your name and email address.

National Police Memorial Day was first held in 2004 and has been held at the end of September each year since. It rotates around England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Federation representatives, chief officers and the Home Secretary usually join the families of fallen officers at the service and the Prince of Wales, patron of the National Police Memorial Day charity, often attends.
