Humberside Police Federation

Have your say on pay and morale

29 July 2020

Members are being encouraged to take part in the annual Police Federation pay and morale survey.

The findings of the survey are used as evidence in the Federation’s annual submission to the Police Remuneration Review Body (PRRB) which advises the Government on officer pay.

“The more officers who use this opportunity to share their views on their pay and morale the stronger the evidence we can share with PRRB and then the Government,” says Pete Musgrave, chair of Humberside Police Federation.

“But it also goes beyond that. As a branch, we also use the results of the survey when we are having discussions with our chief officers and senior managers so the evidence we present has far more weight if we can say it is representative of the majority of our members.

“I would urge all members to take the time to fill out this survey.”

Last year’s survey revealed:

  • 70 per cent of Humberside respondents were dissatisfied with their overall remuneration, including pay and allowances
  • 65 per cent felt they were worse off financially than they were five years ago
  • 37 per cent reported worrying about the state of their finances every day or almost every day
  • 9 per cent reported never or almost never having enough money to cover all their essentials.

However, Humberside officers revealed the highest levels of personal morale when compared with the other forces across England and Wales with only 35 per cent, compared with 57 per cent nationally, saying their morale was low.

Only 47 per cent felt morale within the Force was low, compared with 87 per cent nationally.

The survey has been issued via the Federation’s National Member Database and will close at midnight on Friday 11 September.
