CBRN survey

28 October 2020

Police officers are being asked to complete a survey aimed at finding out the barriers to joining the nation’s chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) capability.

The survey has been launched by the National CBRN Centre which particularly wants to hear from female officers.

Lucy D’Orsi, senior national co-ordinator for Protect and Prepare, said: “CBRN represents a critical capability to the UK, not only for responding to high-profile investigations such as the Novichok incident in Salisbury but also for CT concerns and incidents across everyday policing which receive specialist support from CBRN units.

“However, it has historically had a reputation as a specialism that officers think they may not be suitable for. We are keen to change this, starting by understanding the perceptions around CBRN. Therefore I would like to ask officers to support us by completing this short, anonymous survey which will provide us with insight into what we need to improve on to further open up access to a vital, and fascinating, area of policing.”

The survey represents the first step in a national campaign to broaden the appeal of joining the UK’s chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear capability.

It closes on 31 October 2020.
