Dorset Police Federation

13 July 2021

The outgoing Chair of Dorset Police Federation has paid tribute to her hardworking police colleagues as she retires from the service.

Anna Harvey - who has been the Chair of Dorset Police Federation for the past three years - told colleagues: “I want to take this opportunity to let you all know that it has been an absolute honour to represent you. We have seen some very difficult times recently both in policing the pandemic with personal losses.

“As I reflect over 30 years’ service to the Crown, I can wholeheartedly say police officers are unique in that we get things done, we rise to the challenge and we never say ‘no’. We are a massive police family and I have worked with some fantastic people over the years who have helped shape my career.

“If I had the chance I would do it all over again - though I don’t think my knees would cope.

“I just want to say that you should be very proud of the service you give to the public. Policing isn’t a job, it’s a vocation and it takes exceptional people like you to make it work under the constant pressures and demands you face on a daily basis.”

Anna said she will miss the people and the camaraderie that comes along with the job and the “unique bond” that police officers share.

Although she is looking forward to taking some time off to spend with her young family, she will not be far away as she has taken on a job at Dorset Police Federation where she will look after officers going through ill-health retirement and provide office support.

She added: “One last thing before I sign off. Please look out for each other and stay safe. There is lots of support available - you just need to ask. Remember the Fed is your voice and is always there to support you. I leave you in the very capable hands of our new Chair James Dimmack who will no doubt add his own flair to the role.”
