A Christmas message from Kent Police Federation Chairman Chris Carter

20 December 2018

"I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year and would like to pass on a special thank you to those who are working over the festive period."

A Christmas message from Kent Police Federation Chairman Chris Carter:

"As many of us look forward to Christmas and spending time with friends and family it is also a time to reflect over the previous 12 months. It’s fair to say a challenging time for policing generally and Kent has not been an exception. Call volumes and workloads have risen and the challenges of policing continue to broaden and yet these fall on a smaller number of officers and staff.

We’ve had new elections this year under new regulations and we have 12 new reps and 39 in total across the county, plus 3 full time positions. All of our reps are working for their colleagues at a local, divisional, and increasingly, at force level meetings. So what have Kent Federation been doing to support our members during this time?

Welfare of our members has been key and we have succeeded in the force agreeing to the new ‘polfed app’ for force mobiles as an option for staff to download. We have a new website to support our members and now thanks to the force agreeing to the nine point stress plan we get told of when our members are assaulted. This means we can make contact personally with you, your colleagues and ensure the welfare is in place for you.

We are also now working to extend our media capability with more reps trained. This is vital to getting our message, your message, out there to the public and stakeholders alike. We are also increasing our post incident process cover, with more reps being trained and a proper on call rota being arranged.

We’ve also managed to continue to provide legal insurance cover for our members from existing resources rather than members having to pay extra for this. I am very proud we are able to do this as it isn’t something all Federation branches can deliver for their members.

A small snapshot of what we have been doing, with more to come over the next 12 months. I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year and would like to pass on a special thank you to those who are working over the festive period.
