Resources available to care for Police Officers and their families

20 November 2023

Police officers are being urged to care for themselves and their families by checking the support available to them.

Ed Russell, Chair of Cumbria Police Federation, said the demands of the job must not come at a cost to both the mental and physical health of officers and their families.

It follows research by the National Police Wellbeing Service highlighting concerns felt by those with loved ones in policing.

A survey revealed 75 per cent of family members feel concerned about the wellbeing of those close to them who work as a police officer.

Ed said those seeking support should look to a new series of key resources launched by Oscar Kilo to help.

“These include advice on debt, health, exercise and sleep, and are a valuable resource for your families,” Ed said.

“We all deal with the stresses of policing differently, but we are all human and are all susceptible to trauma.

“Please take a look at the support on offer and signpost your families to it.”
