City of London Police officers to receive £1,000 a year on top of 7% pay rise

26 July 2023

It has been announced today that the City of London Police will match the Metropolitan Police in raising London allowance for police officers by £1,000 per year.

This £1,000 will be in a further pay increase, in addition to the 7% 2023 pay award from the Government.

Mike Reed, Chairman of The City of London Police Federation, said: “In the current cost of living crisis this pay rise will be received well by our members who work hard to protect the City of London and all the people who work in it, travel through it and enjoy socially the safe environment we provide.

“The 7% police officer pay rise announced by the Government this month and coming in from 1 September will help officers who are struggling. Although the 7% was very welcomed it still does not detract from the fact that police pay has remained stagnant for many years now.

“The pay our police officers receive is not in any way a true reflection of what the role involves and the conditions of service which police officers find themselves under.

“Let's hope that Government continues to recognise the unique role of policing and the future pay roads we'll see our membership catching up to where their pay should be.”

Mike concluded: “The City London Police Federation are grateful to the chief officer team you have made this increase possible and those that have worked behind the scenes to support the matching of the London allowance.”
