My name is Gonzalo Balta and I am one of your Federation Representatives. I have been a Police Officer for 20 years. My early career was in the Metropolitan Police Service as a PC in Notting Hill, followed by 5 Area Territorial Support Group. I joined the CID in Lambeth in 2010 as a TDC and had a variety of postings in CID, Robbery Priority Crime Unit & Lambeth Crime Squad, before going on secondment to the Home Office, targeting OCGs involved in Human Trafficking & Immigration Crime. This was followed by a posting to the National Counter Terrorism Policing HQ. In 2020 I transferred to City of London Police, into the Money Laundering Investigation Unit. I was promoted to Detective Sergeant in 2023 and I currently lead one of the Asset Recovery Teams.
I became a Federation Representative as I want to make a contribution to creating a positive workplace environment for my colleagues, by improving on their welfare/working conditions when deployed operationally, supporting & advocating through conduct matters, providing support & advice when navigating work related challenges.
Police Officers are often called upon to resolve family & personal crises & expected to resolve such scenarios satisfactorily, regardless of their age, gender and own personal life experience – Police Officers are human and far more than their job title & rank suggests. Outside Policing, I am a husband & father. In my free time, I enjoy the Sussex countryside and clay pigeon shooting.
