City of London Police Federation

Russ Pengelly PC

Fed Rep & Deputy Secretary

I’m a PC and I joined nearly 22 years ago. I spent 10 years on response, then moved into our control room for a few years. After that I went to our information management services and I was a data protection officer. Then I went back to response, because I wanted to be back out on the ground. Then I moved to community policing for a very short period before being a police trainer for a couple of years. Now I work in the partnership and prevention hub, which is part of sector policing. So I develop all of our crime reduction and prevention operations. I like to be quite personable, so I do talk to absolutely everyone. I’ve been asked on a number of
occasions to be police friends to people who have been subject to disciplinary or UVP, or just need some advice on their day-to-day job. I’m passionate about making sure that officers get the best that they can out of the organisation, because there are lots of opportunities within the police, and sometimes officers don’t necessarily know the questions to ask or the places they need to go.I’m really interested in health and safety, development, and also misconduct. I do really want to focus on the health and safety and misconduct elements, because I think those are two areas where police officers generally suffer. And they’re not always represented in the best way they could be.
