As members know all too well, the Police Remuneration Review Body (PRRB) – the mechanism that’s supposed to ensure fair and independent pay for officers – is anything but independent. The Home Office sets the terms. The Secretary of State approves the outcomes. Recommendations aren’t binding. And there’s no right to appeal.
Worse still, police officers have no right to take industrial action to fight for fairer treatment. In short, the system is broken.
A new Early Day Motion (EDM) has been tabled in Parliament calling for a full review of the PRRB process and the introduction of a system of collective bargaining and binding arbitration. It’s not a call for a blank cheque – it’s a call for fairness and a compensatory mechanism to reflect the unique restrictions placed on police officers.
Now we need your help to build political support.
