A response police officer from Northumbria Police has been recognised and rewarded for their hard work and dedication.

PC Joe Furniss was presented the accolade for National Response Officer of the Year at Annual Conference 2023.

Joe was carefully chosen by a judging panel of NPCC Response Policing Lead DCC Rob Carden, HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary Andy Cooke, Service Director of the National Wellbeing Service Andy Rhodes, PFEW National Board Member Leigh Godfrey and College of Policing Chief Superintendent Andy Walker.

Joe has been a response officer for his entire 22 years with Northumbria Police which has allowed him to build extensive knowledge of the local communities and criminality in the area.

His colleagues said: "His calm, professional manner and his eagerness to attend incidents is astounding. Joe is an exemplary officer, always keen to help and support his colleagues, passing on knowledge or directions.”

In the last 12 months Joe has made 100 arrests which has been achieved through his hard work and great knowledge of the local area.

The award was decided during NPCC’s third annual Response Policing Week of Action, which took place from June 26 to July 2.

Congratulations Joe from all at PFEW.
