Progress on bringing back policing of roads and armed response units under the total control of Wiltshire police will be discussed next week.

The Police and Crime Panel, a group of Swindon Borough and Wiltshire councillors who oversee the work of the force’s police and crime commissioner Angus Macpherson will receive a report on how the matter is proceeding.

In late 2018 the Gloucestershire PCC Martin Surl decided that the county’s force would withdraw from the tri-force arrangements between Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Avon and Somerset Police.

The three services had been sharing responsibility for armed police, roads and dog handling between them since 2012 in order to save money.

The panel will also receive a report on how best to survey members of the public on whether they are happy with the service they receive from the police.

The meeting starts at 10am on Thursday, June 6 at Trowbridge Town Hall.

Questions should be notified to Wiltshire council by 5pm today.
