Blog: Merry Christmas, and happy New Year

A message from West Midlands Police Federation branch chair Rich Cooke.

As Christmas approaches, it is worth reflecting on the past 12 months which, as we all know, turned out to be among the toughest ever.

Once again officers stepped up to the mark to ensure the communities they serve were kept safe, despite the ever-increasing pressure on policing, a constantly growing workload and the morale-sapping rows over pay and pensions.

Over the last year, officers have got the job done with the professionalism, courage and dedication to duty that everyone has come to expect and everyone should take pride in that.

I hope most of you get to spend at least some time with family and friends over the festive season and it is very important to try to get some rest before tackling the challenges that 2022 is bound to bring.

So for now, on behalf of all of us at West Midlands Police Federation, I would like to wish you and your loved ones a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Stay safe, and look after each other.
