Sussex Police Federation

A Christmas message

23 December 2022

PFEW

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your hard work and dedication over this year.

Christmas is a time for reflection and 2022 has been a challenging year both professionally and financially for many of us. It’s also been a year of challenges within the organisation and within our Federation branch. Locally in Sussex, we successfully negotiated a £500 increase in the South-East Allowance. We also welcomed over 50% new volunteer representatives who joined our team at the last election. In addition, we have welcomed a completely new administration team within our office, all of whom have brought new perspectives and experiences, changing the face of our workforce and enabling us to better represent the members that we serve.

The Festive period can be a difficult time for many of you, working long hours keeping our communities safe over Christmas and not spending valuable time making memories with your family. The vast majority of the public and the communities we serve appreciate you all.

In addition to this, a winter of discontent is upon us where we are now seeing our hard-working emergency service colleagues in the NHS and Fire Service taking industrial action. I stand firmly behind them, as we know only too well how hard they work, particularly as Police officers we are usually stood alongside each other in the thick of it. I can recall countless times our joint working has saved lives, not to mention how many times over the years I have seen our nurses and paramedics tending to our injured colleagues. I would like to thank all of them for their hard work. They, like us, deserve better!

I would also like to thank your families, who are sometimes forgotten at this time of year. It is their continued support and sacrifice that enables our fine Police Officers to do the toughest job during the toughest of times.

If you have any questions, concerns or wish to speak to us, please do so at admin@sussex.police.uk.

I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Kind regards,

Daren Egan
