Sussex Police Federation is delighted to announce the launch of its first ever “Excellence in Policing” awards, celebrating the hard work of its members.
The “Excellence in Policing” awards aim to recognise officers from Sussex Police who have gone above and beyond the call of duty during their everyday work. The unsung heroes of the Force who deliver excellence on a regular basis, those of you who lead by example and make British policing revered all over the world.
As Secretary of the Sussex Police Federation I am acutely aware of the multitude of cases that are being diligently worked upon by officers across Sussex, the numerous acts of bravery and dedication displayed on a daily basis, the willingness to show a can-do attitude at all costs, and your admirable dedication to duty in protecting and serving the public of Sussex, often at the expense of your personal and family life. Our aim is to recognise these achievements and provide a stage for all areas of policing within Sussex to be recognised and celebrated.
We believe that the awards that we promote will encompass this and that it is a worthy accolade to be recognised by an organisation that is representative of rank and file officers across Sussex.
There are 17 categories of awards aimed at recognising officers who work within Response, Investigations, Prevention, Specialist Crime Command, FCCD, CJD, and Ops Command and I urge you to lead the proceedings by nominating one or more of your colleagues.
Individual Divisional awards will be presented to officers on Response, Investigations and Prevention and an overall winner from all the categories will be awarded the Sussex Police Federation “Police Officer of the Year” award. There will also be an individual award to recognise the work of a Federation Representative all of whom work tirelessly on your behalf.
In considering your nomination please think of a colleague who you respect and look up to. A role model whom we should all aspire to be like. A colleague who is worthy of recognition and whose achievements deserve to be celebrated at our awards ceremony early next year. Who is your unsung hero who deserves to be recognised?
Nominations should reflect the day to day life of police work and not just be reflective of a single event, though all nominations will be considered.
Nominations will be considered by a panel of Sussex Police Federation Branch Board officers in October 2019 and those officers shortlisted for an award will be notified in the last week of October. The winners and runners up will be announced at an awards ceremony and gala dinner at the Arora Hotel in Crawley on 6 February 2020.
All officers shortlisted for an award will be invited to attend the awards ceremony early next year, along with a guest of their choice.
Simon Steele, Branch Secretary and event organiser said: “This is the first time that Sussex Police Federation has held an event of this type. We know that our members’ dedication and hard work can sometimes go under the radar, so we are delighted to be able to fly the flag for them and celebrate their achievements. I feel passionately about recognising and celebrating the achievements of Sussex Police officers and look forward to reading all the nominations.”
You can nominate a colleague by completing the attached nomination form and by submitting it to firstname.lastname@example.org
Nominations are open now and close on 30 September 2019.
