Insp Kayleigh Naismith wins the Western Officer Award
9 December 2024
A neighbourhood policing officer described as an “excellent role model” has won the Western Officer Award at the Surrey Police Federation Recognition Awards.
Insp Kayleigh Naismith is a Neighbourhood Policing Team Duty Officer. She manages a large number of officers and leads by example, delivering an exceptionally high standard in both victim-led approaches and evidential work.
A senior colleague said that Insp Naismith’s reports take pride in their work and are committed to policing, because they have learned from the way their line manager approaches her job.
They said: “When you have such an excellent role model showing how and why things need to be done a certain way, it leads to improvements in performance and service. As Duty Officer, Kayleigh has a wide pool of officers to influence and guide, and she does it with a smile, a genuine care for the officers and a professional approach throughout.”
Insp Naismith said: “I went into policing because I liked the idea of doing something different every day and being able to make a difference to people’s lives.
“I still enjoy my job now as much as I did when I started nine years ago, and I get the same value out of helping people. As I’ve progressed up the ranks, I’ve invested time into helping my Sergeants and PCs so that they can do their best and go out and give the best to the public.”
She added: “I was pleasantly surprised when I heard I’d been nominated for this award. I try to give this job my everything, so it’s nice to be recognised for that hard work.”
Surrey Police Federation Chair Darren Pemble said: “Policing is a difficult and challenging job no matter what rank an officer undertakes.
“Kayleigh represents the best in policing. She is a highly committed colleague who is also an inspiring manager, and we are thrilled to be able to celebrate her success.”
Insp Naismith will attend the Surrey Police Federation Recognition Awards on Thursday 12 December.

Title: PC Adam Coombs wins the Operational & Specialist Command Award (stock shot for him)
A PC who supports officers during some of the most stressful moments of their career has won the Operational & Specialist Command Award at the Surrey Police Federation Recognition Awards.
PC Adam Coombs works in Surrey Police’s Professional Standards Department (PSD), handling all matters related to conduct as well as the management of death and serious injuries that are referred to the IOPC.
He said: “I’m the go-to person for officers dealing with anything PSD-related, as I’m a force conduit between the organisation and the police watchdog. I do a lot of the updates with the Federation and with police officers and staff; I’m responsible for linking in directly with the Federation when officers are under investigation, to reassure them and explain what stage things are at.
“It can be a really difficult job, but I always try to be open, helpful and transparent about what’s going on. I think people like that honesty about me.”
He continued: “I get a lot of satisfaction from helping officers and staff when they’re under investigation, and trying to swiftly progress it to a conclusion. I always try to help reintegrate people back into the organisation as quickly as possible after they’ve been through a stressful and traumatic process.”
Surrey Police Federation Chair Darren Pemble said: “Adam carries out outstanding work in PSD and is always available to give advice to officers and support them during the most stressful times of their careers. This helps officers understand and deal with these incidents and allegations. He is a worthy recipient of the Award.”
When PC Coombs found out he’d won the award, he said: “I was surprised, but very grateful that someone had thought about me for this. It was nice to be recognised for the hard work.”
PC Coombs will attend the Surrey Police Federation Recognition Awards on Thursday 12 December.
