Officer set to cycle 140 miles round Cheshire to raise money for Mind Charity

4 January 2021

A Cheshire Police officer who has suffered from physical and mental ill health since he was injured on duty is planning a bike road trip to raise funds for charity.

Neil Jones and a colleague are set to pedal 140 miles around Cheshire in May to visit as many police stations in the county as possible. The pair are hoping to raise over £3,500 for the Mind Charity.

Neil suffered injuries to his spine while he attempted to stop the theft of a car ultimately pulling him away from frontline duties with the county’s Roads and Crimes Unit.

He says the incident and the fact that he is unlikely to return to full duties has affected his mental health and although he hasn’t been able to take part in impact exercises such as running he has since taken up cycling.

It was on one of his rides that Neil came up with the idea of the Thin Blue Loop – his route around Cheshire.
