A long-serving Suffolk Police officer has been singing the praises of the Flint House after spending two weeks at the rehabilitation centre.

Kevin Miller, who plans to retire from the Force in October after more than 29 years’ service, described his experiences at the centre as “very, very positive”.

The desk-based investigator contacted Flint House to see if he could access treatment for a long-standing hip problem and was extremely impressed by the service he received.

He explained: “I have had hip problems which are increasingly affecting my mobility and there is a suggestion that surgery will be necessary at some point.

“So I went to Flint House for three reasons - to see if they could help with my mobility; to get a second opinion about what was going on and could be done about it; and also to make sure I can keep in as good a shape as possible for when surgery does eventually come about.”

Kevin said intensive therapy delivered in relaxed surroundings appeared to be the key to Flint House’s outstanding track record.

He said: “I was there for two weeks having physiotherapy and hydrotherapy every day.

“They put together a bespoke exercise programme to help with my specific issues and it was a very, very positive experience.

“I think the key thing about Flint House is the intensity of the treatment it provides so rather than having weeks between appointments to see somebody, you are literally doing something every day.

“But also, the environment they have created there really supports that process. It’s a nice place and it is very relaxed so in the downtime between doing one thing and another, you can really switch off, concentrate on what you are there for and leave everything else behind.”

Flint House is a charity, entirely funded by donations from those in the police service and their families and helps and heals 3,000 serving and retired police officers each year, providing physical rehabilitation as well as mental health support.

People can make a one-off or monthly donation via a dedicated page on the Flint House website.
