Police officers complete 'Six Peaks Challenge' for men’s mental health

1 July 2025

Nottinghamshire Police officer Drew Fenn, his wife Jemma, and his sister Charlotte have successfully completed the ‘Six Peaks Challenge’ - scaling six mountains in just 58 hours.

Raising awareness and funds for the men’s mental health charity 'Enlighten The Shadows', their incredible journey began with the Yorkshire Three Peaks. This was followed by the gruelling National Three Peaks - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - across Scotland, England and Wales.

The challenge was both physically and emotionally demanding, but the team pushed through in honour of the cause close to their hearts.

“It went really well,” said Drew. “We met so many people during our climbs who asked what we were doing, which is what this is all about, raising awareness and getting people talking.

“That’s what kept me going through it all - even if I help just one person by sharing my own experience, that’s enough.”

Drew, who has faced his own battles with mental health, was the driving force behind the team’s motivation. Once dubbed ‘Mr. Grumpy’ at work, he has bravely spoken out about his struggles and received counselling through the Police Federation after a life-changing accident in 2020 led to him seeking help.

Motivated

Jemma said: “Throughout the challenge, it was Drew who kept us going. He kept us motivated.”

Initially, the team hoped to raise around £500. Instead, they’ve smashed that target, raising more than £2,500 for Enlighten The Shadows, a small charity working to break the stigma surrounding men's mental health.

“We just cannot believe it,” Jemma added. “It’s been mentally and physically challenging, but we’re already planning the next one. I’m so proud of Drew. He might drive me up the wall sometimes, but he really does amaze me.”

Their story has already sparked conversations among friends, colleagues, and even strangers.

“People hearing our story and seeing Drew’s experience have driven them to contact us, because either they or their loved ones are suffering from the same challenges,” continued Jemma. “This has been a journey for me and Drew, but hopefully, we’ve shown others that they’re not alone.”

She ended: “Times are really tough for small charities, but hopefully this money will ensure Enlighten The Shadows can continue supporting people just like Drew in the future.”
