On Thursday 16 July, a public service pension schemes consultation was announced by the Government which will close on 11 October 2020. This seeks feedback for addressing discrimination in the CARE 2015 scheme and details the Government’s future plans.

Pensions remain one of the biggest issues to our members and creates an unacceptable level of uncertainty for many of our colleagues.

We are working closely with other UK staff associations to form a cohesive, detailed response to the Government consultation. We are fully aware and acutely conscious of the financial importance of a fair remedy for all our members.

Our position has always been, and remains, that officers should be permitted to remain on the pension scheme they joined, if this is to their benefit.

The Government has also published a range of accompanying documents about the consultation process, which can be found here.

Once we have had the opportunity to fully digest all the proposals, we will provide a fuller and more detailed update.
