Hertfordshire Police Federation

Workplace reps: election process begins

1 July 2021

The Police Federation election process is officially underway with nominations for workplace representatives now open.

Members considering standing for election are being encouraged to step forward but for those undecided there is still time to find out more about the life of a workplace rep.

Hertfordshire Police Federation secretary Al Wollaston said: “Nominations are now open for workplace reps. It is a challenging but very rewarding role and I would encourage any members interested in representing their colleagues to put themselves forward now.

“All subscribing members can stand for election but it would be particularly good to see members from under-represented groups stepping forward.”

Workplace reps carry out a vital role within the Police Federation offering support and advice to members across a wide range of issues such as conduct, pay, allowances, terms and conditions, equality, professional development and operational policing.

Full training is given by the Federation to ensure reps are in a position to offer continued advice, guidance and support to members on issues including misconduct, injustice in the workplace and health management.

Elections for Federation reps are held every three years with interim elections being organised if positions become vacant.

Nominations for this year’s workplace representatives elections close at 11.59pm on 22 July.

All subscribing Federation members will receive an email directly to their PNN address (or their selected preferred email address) from the Federation’s independent third-party electoral service provider, Mi-Voice.

Non-subscribing members cannot stand for election but can vote. Details of the voting platform will be provided in the coming weeks once the nomination period is closed.

The email to subscribing members will contain a link to an online nomination form. Members who wish to stand for election will need to complete the form, which includes confirming that they are eligible to stand and agree to the Standards and Performance Agreement.

Members are asked to check their junk mailbox if they cannot see the email from Mi-Voice in their inbox.
