Is the Medical Scheme being taken over by Medicash?
No, we have contracted Medicash to provide the cash plan on our behalf in a similar way that we contract George Burrows to provide the insurance policies that make up our Group Insurance Scheme.
How does Medicash work with the current Medical Scheme membership?
Medicash will work in addition to your current membership of the Police Federation Medical Scheme. You will have a direct claim portal with Medicash for your cashback claims and new additional benefits. You should still contact the Medical Scheme for medical claims.
Who is covered?
All members aged 18+ who subscribe to the Medical Scheme will be covered by Medicash and you can add up to 4 children to your cover free of charge if they aren’t already included on your membership.
Information on adding additional members or cover will be sent to you by Medicash.
What is the cost?
There will be no additional cost to members of the Medical Scheme. The new Medicash benefits will be covered under your existing Medical Scheme subscription. There is the option to increase your cover and add additional members, details of this will be sent to you by Medicash.
What details do we need?
We do not need any further information from you unless you have any updates or changes to your personal details such as your address.
Is my partner covered by Medicash?
If your partner is also a member of your LPF Medical Scheme policy, they will receive their own Medicash policy as stated in the question below.
If your partner is not a member of the LPF Medical Scheme, you can add then to your Medicash policy for £6.28 per month. This is paid direct to Medicash and can be done by completing a form which can be obtained from the Federation Office.
Why has my partner received their joining email or letter from Medicash when I am the main member of the LPF Medical Scheme?
Each member of the LPF Medical Scheme will have their own individual policy from Medicash with its own unique policy number. The Policy Schedule you receive from Medicash will refer to each LPF Medical Scheme member as the 'Principal Policy Holder' even if they are not the main LPF Medical Scheme member.
If you are the main member of the LPF Medical Scheme, the Partner & Child Cover section of your Medicash policy schedule will state 'None registered' because your partner will receive their own Medicash policy documentation.
Medicash require a unique email address for each policy holder. If you are a household where you share an email address, only one person in your LPF Medical Scheme membership will receive their documentation by email; in some cases, this may not be the main Medical Scheme member and it could be your partner instead. It appears that in this scenario Medicash allocate this alphabetically e.g. if you are Annabelle Smith and John Smith, and John is the main LPF Medical Scheme member, the shared email address would be allocated to Annabelle.
Any person without a unique email address registered with Medicash will receive their documentation in hard copy by post in due course.
Are my children covered by Medicash?
Yes, but children under 18 cannot have their own Medicash policy.
If your child is a member of your LPF Medical Scheme policy and is 18 or over, they will be sent their own Medicash policy documentation.
If your child is a member of your LPF Medical Scheme policy and is under 18 you will need to add them to your own Medicash policy as a 'Dependant Child'. Your children are not covered until you have registered them, and they are shown in the Partner & Child Cover section of your Medicash policy schedule.
If your child is not a member of your LPF Medical Scheme policy, you can add up to 4 dependent children under 16 (or 24 if still in full time education) to your Medicash policy free of charge. If you have 4 children or less this can be done by either parent if both are members of the LPF Medical Scheme, it does not have to be the main LPF Medical Scheme member. Your children are not covered until you have registered them, and they are shown in the Partner & Child Cover section of your Medicash policy schedule.
I do not want to use an app, can I still make a claim?
If you do not wish to download and register the Medicash app you can still make a claim by visiting www.medicash.org/claims or calling them on 0151 702 0333. You will need your policy number in order to do this. (See below if you don't have your policy number)
I do not know my Medicash policy number, where can I find this?
