Federation Chair puts local policing issues to Essex MPs

30 January 2020

TASER and police officer assaults are just some of the issues being raised by Essex Police Federation with the county’s MPs.

Since December’s election, Essex Police Federation has contacted the county’s 18 MPs to discuss local policing issues.

Essex Police Federation Chairman Steve Taylor said: “I’ve contacted all 18 of them and I’ve got appointments to go and see half a dozen of them to advance Essex issues, including Taser and assaults on police officers. We need to put a local perspective on Protect the Protectors.”

Steve added that he hopes to visit the remaining 12 MPs soon. He said: “It gives us an opportunity to advance the national-fed agendas and to give them a local brief on these issues, such as the driving legislation change, bringing Special Constables into the Federation and the police covenant.

“There’s a whole host of areas where we can put a Essex-fed perspective on that national work. We do that on behalf of our members and it’s definitely worth the effort.”
