Essex Police officers commended for bravery

27 April 2018

ESSEX police officers have received commendations from Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh, who paid tribute to their bravery, courage and dedication.

The officers, along with proud family members and special guests, attended an awards ceremony at Police HQ in Chelmsford.

Officers Stewart Willis, Jamie Clarke, Matthew Deane, Adam Dowsett, Sami Dawood and Acting Sgt Richard Mallett were commended for helping to save a woman’s life.

They were commended for their assistance at an incident where a woman had collapsed on a bus at Stansted Airport.

The officers immediately commenced CPR until the arrival of ambulance staff who took her to hospital.

DS Mick Carrington, DC Chris Sedgwick, PC Neil Rowland and member of staff Gill Rendall were commended for their work towards securing a conviction against two suspects who were found guilty of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent, aggravated burglary and possession of a firearm.

They secured long custodial sentences for the suspects in 2017.

His Honour Judge Turner commended the officers and staff member involved for the quality of evidence collated and the manner in which the investigation was conducted, which had been extremely challenging.

Addressing the group, Chief Constable Kavanagh said: “These commendations are a chance to say thank you for the brilliant work that takes place across this county every day by our officers, staff and in this case member of the public.

“Whether it’s officers who are responding to those in need of help or detectives carrying out complex investigations, as their Chief Constable, it’s a pleasure to celebrate their continued dedication and bravery.”
