Help COPS by supporting Light the Lakes event

18 May 2021

Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton says the Light the Lakes event is a chance to remember fallen colleagues and raise money for charity.

Teams will climb the Lake District fells on 18 June and light blue flares just before dawn on 19 June in memory of officers who have died on duty.

Police officers will join colleagues and members of the public for the challenge, which will see the 214 peaks across the Lake District lit up by blue flames.

The annual event has been taking place since 2012 but was postponed last year due to the pandemic. It raises money for the police survivors charity Care of Police Survivors (COPS).

Tony said: “Light the Lakes provides an opportunity for us to remember our fallen colleagues. It’s a also a great way for us to show our support for COPS, which does an outstanding job in looking after those families who have lost a loved one.

“The pandemic has impacted us all over the last year, including charities such as COPS which will have missed out on a large amount of funding. Hopefully, this year’s Light the Lakes will be a huge success and will help raise much-needed money towards the charity’s invaluable work within the policing family.”

Support the event.
