Derbyshire Police Federation

Take control of your finances

9 February 2023

A new factsheet aims to help Derbyshire Police Federation members take control of their financial wellbeing and ease their money worries.

Police Mutual, which provides financial services and welfare support to the police service, has produced its latest Let’s Talk Debt factsheet.

Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton is encouraging members to think about their financial health for the good of their mental health.

Tony said: “Worrying about money, debt and paying bills can impact your mental health, which in turn can make earning money and managing finances even harder.

“Seeking support and talking about your finances can help enormously. This new Police Mutual factsheet is full of advice on managing your money and prioritising debt, and it also gives information on where to get support.

“Don’t forget that your Federation reps are here for you as well. If you’re struggling, we can help you find the support you need.”

The Let’s Talk Debt factsheet includes tips on budgeting, saving and reviewing outgoings such as insurances and mortgages to see where reductions can be made.

It also includes advice on debt, including the difference between priority debts and non-priority debts, understanding your credit score and on borrowing money.

For members who are struggling with their finances, the factsheet can signpost to organisations that can provide support.
