Seasonal factsheets from Police Mutual

5 January 2023

Police Mutual has produced two new factsheets to help members get 2023 off to a flying start.

The first is a guide to Dry January to help members join thousands of other people across the country in giving up alcohol for the first month of the year.

It highlights the health benefits of giving up the booze for a month including better sleep, weight loss and improved mental health – as well as the financial savings you can make.

Police Mutual, which provides financial services and welfare support to the police service, has also produced a guide to so-called Blue Monday.

Blue Monday is the third Monday of the year and is said to be the most depressing day of the year as the financial hangover of Christmas kicks in and the shorter, darker days can impact our mental health.

The Police Mutual factsheet offers ideas to combat the winter blues, including exercise, being sociable and setting realistic targets.

Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton said: “With Christmas soon feeling like it’s in the dim and distant past, credit card bills arriving and the days still short and the nights long, there’s no doubt January can be a challenging time for a lot of people.

“These free factsheets offer invaluable advice on protecting our physical and mental health, and starting the year in the right way.”
